Splash Form Bowls

From recycled to molten to unique
At first glance, I was somewhat reminded of The Great Bowl of Fire but the shapes are much more organic. The Splash Form Bowls by Melt Modern are created with a technique that consists of throwing molten aluminum onto a sand mold one splash at a time until the bowl is complete. Needless to say, each bowl is unique.

Splash Form bowls come in three different sizes with prices starting at $195.

I like it. It's a little bit too raw for my taste in some ways, but on the other hand, it's a great technical solution. It would be interesting to see other forms created this way by splashing over other shapes.

This looks cool, but isn't vaguely practical. If it was resin or even plastic, it would be better. You coudl papier mache over a balloon, paint it and get much the same effect.

What amazing bowls! (Poor Rachel - I guess she lives in a tent, eats off paper plates, and sneaks out to construction sites to use the portapotty. Have fun with the papier mache!)
